The Home

The Home is Kit’s portfolio of shows about residential care in the UK.  It’s world-building on a grand scale, creating a fictional care home company, The Home, and inviting diverse audiences to interact in a range of innovative ways across a variety of forms.

It consists of three strands:

The Home live.  A 48 hour long, durational experiential show where the audience move into the fake care home.  Other larger audience can visit for two hour slots.  This has been staged multiple time in the UK.  It is available for restaging.

The Digital Home.  A video game version of the live show, showcasing care in the UK and Japan.  Made in collaboration with Saitama Arts and funded by the Japan Foundation

The Home Roadshow.  The 48 hour long live show and the vast gaming experience of The Digital Home has been distilled down to a 30 minute feel-good experience for care home residents and staff.  This has completed three UK tours, each increasing in size and scope.

Press Reviews

The Guardian: This extraordinary immersive experiment investigating the performance of – and line between – care and control is an unforgettable feat of emotional engineering.

Slice the show open and you’d see the layers of performance like rings in a tree, so tightly wound, you quickly lose count…

Logistically, The Home is remarkable: the level of control even when we thought we had agency; the intricacy of planning and stage management; the intense periods of improvisation from all cast and crew. It rings us out emotionally, too. The Home is neither a blanket celebration nor critique of the care sector, but a demonstration of how complicated and difficult it is. By making us genuinely vulnerable, The Home forces us to directly address the care industry and our own possible futures within it.

British Theatre Guide: “Audacious and confrontational…Powerfully felt and a compelling call to arms…Impeccably researched and minutely detailed in its delivery, it was impossible to resist The Home”The Digital Home

The Home Roadshow

The Home Roadshow is a hopeful, interactive performance for residents, their families, and staff

It takes a light-hearted look at the Care Home, celebrating what it is to live and work in a care setting. It’s music, dance and comedy… a little bit of seriousness with a big bit of fun.

This show was created by award-winning theatre writer, Kit Green, who wanted to create something fun and thought-provoking; something that’s going to get everyone in care homes singing, smiling, and hopefully talking about the topics it raises for a long time afterwards.  There will be a cast of four professional actors who will entertain, listen, and make the performance special for each location. Audience members will be visited by a team working for a rival care home chain who are (no-so-secretly) trying to recruit residents to come and live in one of their homes instead!
