Four Letter words is Kit’s second solo album.
This collection of songs features a collaboration with Yshani Perinpanayagam on piano. (“Perinpanayagam is a modern-day musical polyglot.” – Opera Now)
Kit’s new songs on Four Letter Words are a wry, musically diverse group about survival, love, joy, and sex in post-pandemic London. They are about finding a way through a complex life with humour and passion. They are saying the things that aren’t often said. They also know that if there’s no way to give these things voice, then the piano takes over and says them in the chords, the notes, and the silences in between.
Four Letter Words is the follow-up to 2023’s Always Here, which was co-written with acclaimed singer-songwriter Kathryn Williams and produced by Ed Harcourt. This collection was about Kit’s explorations of self-love during her transition. This was a concept album imaging Kit existing in 9 different times expressed through 9 different musical styles.
Four Letter Words also has a concept at its heart in that it takes place during a fictional day from early in the morning until the following night. There is a period of reflection in the afternoon. This timeline follows in the footsteps of Virginia Woolf’s Mrs Dalloway, James Joyce’s Ulysses and Kate Bush’s A Sky of Honey from the Aerial album.
